Spaghetti + Garlic Bread, a Perfect Match!

This Spaghetti bread might seem a little wonky, but this recipe came about because this is something my kids actually already do! They love piling spaghetti on top of garlic bread and eating it this way! However, I’ve found that for optimal results, you really should put the ground beef and spaghetti on in separate layers. Bread, meat, spaghetti, then cheese. It just holds together better this way and because it holds better, it makes it easier to eat.

I like serving this easy main dish with a green salad on the side.

This recipe reminds me so much of my garlic bread sloppy joes. I know you guys love that recipe, so it was a no-brainer to make a spaghetti topped garlic bread version and even though I’ve used homemade garlic bread for this recipe, (because it’s cheaper) I’ll also give you the instructions for using frozen garlic bread for those who’d like it to be even easier.

What do I need to make spaghetti bread boats?

  • Ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • Spaghetti sauce, 2 jars (thick spaghetti sauce is preferable)
  • 4 sub or hoagie rolls, cut in half,* see notes
  • Butter
  • Garlic Powder
  • Spaghetti pasta
  • Mozzerella cheese

*If you’d like to use store bought frozen garlic bread for this recipe you absolutely can. You’ll need 8 slices.

Step by step Instructions

Spaghetti sauce is added to the ground beef.

Step 1.Preheat the oven and cover a large cookie sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Fill a large pot with salted water and place it on high heat.

Step 2: Brown the ground beef and drain off the fat. Add 2 cups of the spaghetti sauce to the meat and leave it on low while you prepare the bread.

The garlic butter is brushed onto the rolls.

Step 3: Mix together the melted butter and garlic powder. Brush it over the rolls and then place the rolls in the oven to bake. Bake the rolls for 10 minutes.  If you are using frozen garlic bread, simply bake the bread as directed and then move to the next step.

Step 4: Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to the package directions. Drain the spaghetti and add the remaining spaghetti sauce.

To assemble the spaghetti bread, meat sauce, spaghetti and then cheese are added to each roll.

Step 5: Now it’s time to assemble the spaghetti boats. Top a sub roll with the meat sauce, place spaghetti on top of the meat and finish with mozzarella cheese. Repeat with each sub roll and then bake again for 8-10 minutes.
