Too often, in my opinion, bacon is reserved for breakfast dishes or thrown into a soup to get soggy. But it can be so much more! Bacon is one of the most versatile and flavorful cuts of meat. It can dress up any meal or work wonders on its own. Making this Cajun Candied Bacon Crackers recipe is a great way to start experimenting with new bacon dishes and treat yourself to a sweet and savory snack.

These delicious Cajun Candied Bacon Crackers are a perfect addition to any family get together or Sunday night football game. They are super easy to make, and I guarantee you have the ingredients for them sitting in your kitchen right now! I’m personally looking forward to breaking them out as an appetizer for Christmas celebrations with my friends!

What Do I Need to Make This Recipe?

3/4 cup of brown sugar, a plate of raw sliced bacon, Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning, cayenne pepper, and a sleeve of saltine crackers.
  • 1 sleeve Saltine crackers
  • 12-14  slices of bacon, cut into thirds
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 teaspoons cajun seasoning, I used Tony Chachere’s
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (more or less, according to your tastes)
  • freshly cracked black pepper

Step by Step Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prepare a sheet pan by lining it with aluminum foil and placing a wire baking rack on the pan. The aluminum foil will help make for easy cleanup afterwards.
Brown sugar, cajun seasoning, and cayenne pepper mixed together into a Ziploc bag. Then bacon pieces are added to the bag and mixed in the seasoning.

2. Add the brown sugar, cajun seasoning and cayenne pepper to a gallon sized  Ziploc bag and shake it to mix well.

Separate the bacon slices and add them one by one to the bag. This will help you to more easily coat each slice of bacon with the brown sugar mixture. Shake and knead the bacon in the Ziploc bag until all the bacon pieces are coated with sugar and the sugar mixture is completely incorporated.

3. Wrap each cracker with one slice of bacon and place it on the baking rack. When all the crackers are wrapped, place the baking sheet into the oven and bake at 350 degrees for approximately 27-32 minutes or until the bacon has crisped to your preference.

4. Upon removing from the oven, crack fresh black pepper over the crackers if desired. Wait until the crackers cool to room temperature and serve.

Notes:

A sleeve of saltine crackers has approximately 40 crackers, some brands have more or less, so you may need a few more crackers than one sleeve.

I do not recommend super thick cut bacon for this recipe. This recipe has been tested with regular sliced, classic cut bacon.
