Cherry Chocolate Muffins

- 2 ⅓ cups all purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup sour cream
- ½ cup buttermilk
- ⅓ cup vegetable oil
- 2 eggs beaten
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 ½ cups fresh dark sweet cherries pitted and chopped
- ⅔ cup dark chocolate chips milk chocolate or semisweet is fine too
First, stem, pit, and chop the cherries if you are using fresh.
Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F. Line 2 muffin pans with paper liners.
Then mix the dry ingredients and make a well.
Mix the wet ingredients and pour them into the well. Stir until just combined. You don’t want to overmix because it will make your muffins less tender.
Fold in the chocolate and cherries.
Fill the muffin tins half full and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean!
Set on wire rack to cool.
If you don’t have sour cream, greek yogurt is a good substitute when baking.
If you don’t have fresh cherries, frozen or canned cherries will work in this recipe.
