Cherry Chocolate Muffins

Chocolate cherry muffins are moist chocolate muffins studded with chocolate chips and juicy chopped cherries, what’s not to love? Sometimes you want a decadent muffin for breakfast and, oh my, does this fit the bill!

Ingredients

  • 2 ⅓ cups all purpose flour
  • 1  cup sugar
  • cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • cup vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 ½ cups fresh dark sweet cherries pitted and chopped
  • cup dark chocolate chips milk chocolate or semisweet is fine too

Instructions

  • First, stem, pit, and chop the cherries if you are using fresh.
  • Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F. Line 2 muffin pans with paper liners.
  • Then mix the dry ingredients and make a well. 
  • Mix the wet ingredients and pour them into the well. Stir until just combined. You don’t want to overmix because it will make your muffins less tender. 
  • Fold in the chocolate and cherries. 
  • Fill the muffin tins half full and bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean!
  • Set on wire rack to cool. 

Notes

If you don’t have sour cream, greek yogurt is a good substitute when baking.
If you don’t have fresh cherries, frozen or canned cherries will work in this recipe.
